My sister and her son and girlfriend moved into a rental house in Brisbane. (three income earners) They were given an initial six-month lease only and told that the reason for such a short lease was that “‘the owner wanted to see what kind of tenants they were”. Well they have put up with broken down pipes (spent money on a make-shift solution to stop an ever increasing hole in the ground as water pours from 5 metres above); replaced and fixed faulty lights light bulbs at own expense; reported constant leaks and probable termites; reported that the solar lights bordering the driveway actually do not exist; purchased a lawnmower, edge cutter and buckets of rat baits to try to control the infestation; have had family garden working bees to keep the large block with lawn, hedge and plants looking respectable, bought a 3-metre washing machine inlet hose as the concrete slab where the machine should sit is cracked, broken and undermined by erosion (and is a rat hide). Furniture etc has been purchased as you can imagine and all that ‘paperwork to authorities etc when one needs to make a change of address’… Well after only two months they had to undergo an inspection but received no feedback or report from the real estate agent. Now, with two months left on their lease they receive an email from the real estate agent that states they have two weeks to decide on another 6-month lease with a $20/week rent increase and a bond increase as well. How can one live stress-free when one doesn’t know where they might be living in the near future? And what of the stress and cost of moving again? From my perspective, some agents are only interested in $$$, and yes, do nothing to upkeep the owners’ properties nor show human consideration for the lives and welfare of the tenants on whom they prey!

Is your wife above the age of 60? Because these are some pretty outdated definitions.

For one, the “G’daaaaiii” is a very specific (and somewhat less common) form of greeting, denoting surprise. A normal g’day is not drawn out at all and can be said in basically one syllable in about half a second – think “gday mate just the diesel thanks”

Billabong is not slang, but is now a defined and accepted word.

Billy has nothing to do with making tea, a billy is a bong/waterpipe

Bloody doesnt mean “very” on its own, but is used much like “Fucking” would in the sense of emphasizing the next term. “Mate it’s bloody thrashed!”

Blowie means blowjob, not blowfly. To refer to a blowfly you just say fly.

Boatie – literally have never heard this. Can’t say it doesn’t exist as slang, but it’s definitely not australia-wide.

Chook also refers to middle-aged women, as well as hens.

And honestly there’s so many more inaccuracies but I’m bored of fixing your article.
At a guess I’d guess you’re upper-middle class and in your 50s+ living in either Bris, Syd or Melb inner suburbs.

Thanks for this blog.
Shocking to read that it’s even worse than anywhere else in the world.
I thought it was only extreme now in the Netherlands. Where house prices are also unbelievable.
Good to make us aware the real estates are wolves and clients is a word of the past.
I also believe that owning a house is not a must but should be reasonable affordable for most people.
It’s really a concern how this will end or how this can be stopped.

It is a shame what Australia Post charges are for a tiny PO Box and mail redirection within Australia.
Not only that is expensive they increase the costs every year. What is mostly an insult to their clients is that make record profits every year. This should not be a money making enterprise. Someone should stop them.

Dear Go Australia Tours

I am currently devising a youtube segment called “Travelling Safely Across Australia.” In this segment I will travel as extensively as I can, across Australia, using public transport. I am a poor Australian, and recent university graduate. I am 58 year old woman. I do not know anybody of my age, who is doing this. So far, I have an interesting interview on bees. I think of myself as a trip advisor/safety inspector. Hopefully, I will be able to interview lifeguards, fire fighters etc. Just now, I googled NRL teams, and your page came up. Livestock are the most dangerous animals in Australia, mostly horses. Crocodiles will eat you but you are having a really bad day if a shark attacks you. Bees! very dangerous. I will reveal the good, the bad and the ugly of Australia. Did you know there is a “Krispy Kreme” Drive Through in Mt Gambier! Yep, they make the doughnuts in the shop. Especially if you live in a state that experiences all of the seasons, there are so many things you will need to keep up with your yard. In winter, it will be crucial to have an electric snow blower to make snow removal easy. In the fall, you’ll need a solution for leaf removal. You’ll probably want a gas leaf blower for maximum results.
